UAM School Organization

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

UAM students engage in critical dialogue about how to convey a message in their media classes.  They learn to choose the appropriate medium and language to effectively communicate a message, idea or belief.  They transfer these skills to their academic classes, where teachers create curricula that highlight the connections across subject areas and the relevance to students’ lives.  The relevance of their in-school learning is deepened through partnerships, which provide opportunities for student exposures, afterschool experiences and the professional development of school staff.
In all areas of study, students produce projects, productions and exhibits using a variety of different media.  Students’ defense of work helps to develop their ability to articulate and defend the process of creation and learn to engage in the practice of self-reflection and group critique.  Additional social-emotional skill development is supported through advisory, which provides students with an opportunity to develop a relationship with an advisor and time to build upon personal strengths and address areas of weakness.  As a community, UAM works to provide students with experiences that will ensure their success in college and beyond.
