We have learned that our building, the MLK Campus, was identified by the Department of Education as requiring additional work in order to meet the City's health and safety standards. There is a possibility that the repairs will not be complete by September 21- when in-person learning is supposed to start. Should this be the case, the DOE is in the process of identifying alternate sites for our school. More details to come...

UAM KNOWS BLACK LIVES MATER
Dear UAM Students and Families,
The past week has been the hardest week of quarantine. Watching the death of George Floyd and the protests against police brutality against the backdrop of the ravages of Covid-19, I worry about your safety both physical and emotional. I know that you must be going through unimaginable pain and hardship. It makes my heartache and wish more than ever I could see you in person.
What makes this time even harder, is that I know these events are the culmination of hundreds of years of racist policy, political inaction and silence. George Floyd is one name in the list of many Black people who have been victimized and killed by police. The family members you have lost because of Covid-19 are a direct result of racist policy and a willing neglect of the needs of Black and Latinx people. As a school leader, of a school community, in NYC, in the United States of America I represent this system that has failed you. My work now, more than ever, is to make changes both small and large to disrupt this system that has led to our current inequities. With the UAM staff, I am committed to addressing the racism and inequity that surrounds us. We are working to do better each day.
While we remain physically distant and the school building cannot be a place to commune, know that we are still here for you. Our phones and computers are by our sides so that you can reach us. I welcome your thoughts and questions. Call, text or email whenever you want:
Phone number: 646-481-6531
This Friday, we will be hosting a townhall for students to talk about their current and lived experiences with race. This will be part of an ongoing series and we look forward to hearing the voices of our young people.
With love and respect,
The DOE is launching a family-facing Remote Learning Technical Support ticket system. Families (or someone on their behalf) can submit requests for technical support for a broad range of issues, including application support, lost, stolen, or broken devices, and delivery status, though the Technical Support for Families page. Note that when families select a topic and issue in the ticket submission form, the form will automatically list common resolutions to technical support problems; if the suggested resolutions do not resolve the family’s issue, they can continue to submit a tech support ticket by completing the form.
This family-facing system, and the DOE staff remote learning support ticket system, is intended to replace emails to the SchoolDevices@schools.nyc.gov inbox. Schools should share this new resource with families.
